Prayer times, worked out here

Fajr, Sunrise, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha for wherever you are. The whole calculation happens in this page, from the sun's position on today's date. Your location is never sent anywhere.

The adhan at the right minute

A browser tab cannot wake your phone to call the adhan. The Android app can: it schedules an exact alarm for every prayer, plays one of 28 adhan voices, and does it with no internet permission at all.

Questions

How are these prayer times calculated?

From your latitude and longitude and the position of the sun for today's date, using the standard angles for the calculation method you pick. The whole calculation runs in your browser. Your coordinates are never sent to a server.

Which calculation method should I choose?

Use the one your local masjid uses. Muslim World League is the common default in Europe, Umm al-Qura in Saudi Arabia, Karachi across Pakistan and India, ISNA in North America and Egyptian in much of Africa. The methods differ mainly in the sun angle used for Fajr and Isha.

What is the difference between Hanafi and standard Asr?

Asr begins when an object's shadow equals its own length plus its noon shadow, which is the majority position. The Hanafi school uses twice the object's length, so Asr comes later.

Do I need to allow location?

Only if you want the times for where you are. You can type a latitude and longitude instead. Either way nothing leaves this page.
